FAQs
What makes the Docs Dogs harness different from other dog harnesses?
Docs Dogs is the first dog harness built with a snowboard-style ratchet strap system instead of plastic side-release buckles. The ratchet lets you tighten the harness one tooth at a time for a precise, custom fit. No more guessing between loose and too-tight sizing holes. It's the same trusted hardware snowboarders use on the mountain, now engineered for your dog.
How does the ratchet buckle work?
Feed the ladder strap through the ratchet, pull the lever, and click it tooth-by-tooth until the fit is dialed in. To release, push the button inside the ratchet and the strap slides free. It locks under tension, so the harness stays secure no matter how hard your dog pulls. See our demonstration video in by clicking on the "How it works" tab.
Is the Docs Dogs harness escape-proof?
The ratchet system creates a far more secure fit than traditional plastic-buckle harnesses, which are the #1 reason dogs slip out of their gear. Because you can micro-adjust the fit instead of relying on fixed sizing holes, there are no loose gaps for your dog to wiggle through. Combined with the padded chest plate and reinforced stitching, it's one of the most secure adventure harnesses available.
Why does my dog keep slipping out of his harness?
Most harnesses use plastic buckles with fixed sizing holes, which leaves gaps that strong, slim, or determined dogs can back out of. The Docs Dogs ratchet eliminates those gaps by letting you tighten the fit incrementally until it's truly snug.
Will this harness fit a [Labrador / German Shepherd / Husky / Golden Retriever / Pit Bull / Border Collie/ etc.]?
Yes. The Docs Dogs harness is engineered for medium to large active breeds including Labradors, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Huskies, Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, Pit Bulls, and other adventure dogs. The ratchet adjustment accommodates the body shape variations across breeds better than standard harnesses. We are focused on specializing in dogs that wear size Large and XL harnesses. The weight of these dogs varies from 35-85lbs depending on the body type of your dog.
The owner of Docs Dogs, Tristan, has a Doberman German Shepherd mix named, Bambi. She is featured on our website. Tristan does not recommend our harness for a dog her size because of her narrow chest. This is because we are committed to 100% customer satisfaction and honesty with our customers.
How do I clean my dog harness?
We recommend washing on a delicate cycle in cold water. Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals, and machine drying to preserve the harnesses life and reflective material integrity. Docs Dogs has taken the liberty of providing a mesh wash bag with every purchase. This supports our claim of being one of the most durable dog harnesses on the market. Longterm ownership comes with proper care and maintenance. We provide the washbag so that you are able to do so!
