Docs Dogs Ratchet Strap Harness
Docs Dogs Ratchet Dog Harness | Escape-Resistant, No-Pull Harness Built for Cold Weather & Active Dogs
Tired of dog harnesses with plastic buckles that fail in the cold or let determined dogs slip loose? Our harness replaces flimsy side-release clips with a real ladder ratchet strap — the same mechanism that's locked snowboarders into their bindings for decades.
Designed by our founder, a U.S. Navy medic with cold-weather training experience, this harness was built to solve the problems active dog owners deal with every day.
Set it once. On and off in seconds — at the same perfect fit, every time.
Here's the difference: you ratchet the harness to your dog's exact fit one time, tooth by tooth, no loose 2-inch jumps. From then on, the quick-release buckle lets you take it on and off in seconds — and it always returns to that dialed-in fit. No re-sizing, no guessing, no slipping. It's the same reason snowboarders trust ratchet bindings: precise fit, instant release.
Built to address the most common dog harness problems
- Escape-resistant design — the ratchet locks tooth-by-tooth so it can't pop loose like a worn-out plastic clip
- Helps with pullers — front-clip D-ring redirects pulling without choking your dog, a setup commonly used for huskies, labs, shepherds, pitbulls, and other strong breeds
- Cold-weather ready — metal ratchet hardware built for conditions where plastic buckles become brittle and crack
- Dialed-in fit — micro-adjustable in small increments so the harness conforms to your dog's body
- Quick-release convenience — set the ratchet once, then use the side-release buckle for fast on-and-off, even with gloves on
Why it costs more than the harness you're replacing
Most harnesses in this price range still rely on the same plastic hardware that fails. We spent the money where it counts: metal ratchet hardware, reinforced stitching, and a build that holds up to backcountry use. You're paying for the mechanism that won't let you down on the mountain.
Built for ski towns, trailheads, and everywhere in between
Whether you're hiking the backcountry in Colorado, hitting the trails around Mammoth, trekking the Wasatch, or just walking a strong puller around the neighborhood — this harness was made for dogs that go where you go.

Sizing
| Size | Neck | Chest / Girth | Weight (estimated) |
|---|---|---|---|

| X-Large | 41–75 cm (16.1"–29.5") | 73–97 cm (28.7"–38.2") | 60–110 lbs (27–50 kg) |
Chest girth is the authoritative measurement. Weight ranges are guidance only — body shape varies between breeds.
Harness panel dimensions
- Large: back panel 32 cm, belly panel 41 cm
- X-Large: back panel 40 cm, belly panel 43 cm
Example breeds
- Large fits well on: Australian Shepherd, Border Collie, Vizsla, Boxer, English Bulldog, Belgian Malinois, smaller Labradors, Pit Bull / American Bully, Shar-Pei

Between sizes? (60–75 lbs / chest 73–88 cm)
If your dog falls in the overlap, size up to X-Large for deep-chested breeds (Pit Bull, Boxer, Lab), dogs still growing, or heavy winter coat / sweater use. Stay with Large for lean, narrow-chested breeds (Vizsla, Border Collie) or dogs at the lower end of the weight range.
How to measure your dog
- Chest / girth: Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs. This is the most important measurement.
- Neck: Measure at the base of the neck, where a collar sits.
- Measure twice. Order based on chest first, neck second.
Our fit guarantee
Not the right fit? We'll make it right within 30 days. We'd rather have your dog in the right size than have you stuck with the wrong one.
